Formula 1 X Wings
One of the most tricky areas that rule makers have found to police in formula 1 is flexible bodywork and wings for there can be no such thing as a zero tolerance approach.
Formula 1 x wings. Yes i would love to see the x wings make their revival. Formula 1 teams know that to perform at their best they need to push the regulations to the limit. The tyrrell team once introduced the x wings on their tyrrell 025 in 1997. The f1 regulations prohibited downforce generating wings in various key areas of the car but at the time the space above and to the side of the drivers head was fair game.
The idea behind the tyrrell towers is when driving behind a car the wings generate more downforce. The x wings or pylons were born of a desperate need to instil more grip in a car that was fundamentally short of both horsepower and downforce. While f1 mandated simpler front wings for 2019 it has led to a development war in other areas. Probably one of the few that remembers the wings at all.
Sometimes they go too far though. Formula 1 cars become increasingly more complex with every iteration and 2019 has been no exception. One of the most tricky areas that rule makers have found to police in formula 1 is flexible bodywork and wings for there can be no such thing as a zero tolerance approach.
